
Belongs to an agricultural family. Took part in Indian Independence
movement while he was a high school student. An active rural
social worker as a student. As a student, he was a volunteer
to teach primary school students belonging to scheduled
castes. A mountaineer and interested in Sports and Chess.
Lawyer by profession. A trade union activist. He was the
founder President of many workers 'Unions including Canara
Dock Workers Union, beedi Workers Union, Tile Workers Union,
Hotel Workers Union etc. He belonged to the INTUC.
A member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Surathkal
Constituency. He was the first Minister for land reforms
and Minister for Power and Electricity and Minister for
Information. He served as Minister for Education. He worked
as the All India General Secretary and Secretary for the
Parliamentary Board of Janata Party, headed by Dr. Subramanian
Swamy. At present, he is the President of Karnataka State
Janata Party and the member of Parliamentary Board of the
Janata Party.
He is secular in his approach and as a strong believer in
"Sarve Janaa Sukhino Bhavantu" ( Let all people
be happy) - a bedrock of Hinduism, and as a believer that
those who do not practise this fundamental principle cannot
be a Hindu, is a Hindu by belief. He is a widely traveled
